Today 30 of the W.I.N.'s visited the local neighborhood Camel Farm here in Yuma. We soon found out that there were more than camels living here. Actually there are 22 species of birds and mammals on the farm. The camels are sometimes used for parades and special events.
Patagonian Cavy or Mara

Talk about "laid back"

Carolyn seems to have these guys undivided attention
We were warned to give this fellow plenty of room

Ohhhh, makes me homesick for Idaho
This gal seems to be having a "bad hair day"

These Barbados "hair" sheep are shedding their coats

What a handsome fellow!

Donkey? Zebra? Donkey? Zebra?

Coatamundi (must remember to check that spelling)

OK who let these two critters out of their cage?

VFW YUMA, ARIZONA
W.I.N.'s annual Christmas gathering at the Yuma VFW

Not exactly the quietest camping spot next to the highway and railroad tracks

It was a cool Christmas morning at "hugs and mugs" where we enjoyed our hot coffee and a variety of treats
After hugs and mugs we had a large turnout for the gift exchange game where when your number is called, you pick a gift and then the next person called can steal it. We had great fun and a lot of laughs.

Working up an appetite

The VFW put on a great Christmas dinner complete with live music

After 11 very interesting days at the Slabs, it was back to Quartzsite for a few days of R & R, laundry and other boring errands before heading down to Yuma for the Christmas holidays

Back at the LOW's (Loner's On Wheels) compound at Slab City, we, the W.I.N.'s, were cordially invited to share some hot turkey noodle soup and homemade biscuits with ice cream and cake and brownies for dessert, which was much appreciated as the weather was cooling down.
Visiting Salvation Mountain created by Leonard Knight was an experience in itself. You can find out more info at http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2042
Here are just a few of the photos I took.

This is "Container Charlie" of Slab City who graciously allowed us to tour his estate
Charlie showed our group some of the artful uses he found for all the junk he found on the place
As we found out later, you do not visit Charlie's abode without a previously arranged invitation

Charlie and friends tried to bury the N. Y. MTA bus years ago which is used for guests now

Charlie's Music Room was very impressive
